NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on the Rich Eisen Show that former Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook has multiple offers on the table.

Cook may not make a decision soon, however. Pelissero further reported that Cook and his agent are willing to be patient — even past the beginning of NFL training camps — before accepting a deal, with the understanding that teams may realize that their running back options are limited or that an injury in camp creates an opportunity for Cook.

Update: Since the original release of this story, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald has reported that the Dolphins have made an official offer to Dalvin Cook. The terms of the offer have yet to be revealed, but it looks like a resolution to the Cook drama might be coming to a potential end.

Dalvin Cook May Be Connected to Almost Every Contending AFC Team

Though Pelissero did not explicitly mention any teams by name as having been connected to Cook, he brought up the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and New York Jets as potential candidates for teams interested in Cook.

Notably, former Vikings teammate and locker-room neighbor Tyler Conklin endorsed the idea of bringing Cook to New York, with Cook retweeting the conversation between Conklin and Pelissero on Good Morning Football.

The Jets are an interesting part of this conversation in part because they have a potentially elite back in Breece Hall who is continuing his rehabilitation from injury. Hall may be back by the beginning of the season but could be on a light workload for the first couple of weeks.

In that case, having Cook on the roster — despite also carrying fifth-round rookie Israel Abanikanda and 2021 draft pick Michael Carter — could be smart.

Pelissero ruled out one team that has been connected to Cook in the past: the Buffalo Bills. That could, in part, be because James Cook, Dalvin’s brother, is slated to take on the bulk of the workload in Buffalo.

Dalvin Cook Has To Fight Free Agent Competition

If this turns out to be the case, it would mean that the gamble that Cook and his agent took — that Cook was a “rare” June free agent, as Pelissero put it — paid off. Cook will still have to demonstrate, however, that he’s a superior option in a significant way to other running backs on the market, like Ezekiel Elliott, Kareem Hunt, and Leonard Fournette.

It may also be the case that negotiations with Cook could be used as leverage against Saquon Barkley or Josh Jacobs if they decide to hold out in response to the franchise tag.
