The NFL Draft has become its own industry in recent years, attracting massive interest from a community hungry for all the drama and excitement of football, minus the disappointment that 31 teams face by the end of each season. In other words, the NFL Draft instills some measure of hope for every team and its fandom, as each franchise aims to improve across three exciting days.

Part of that excitement stems from who announces each draft pick … and how. And with the New York Jets apparently going all in on a Super Bowl run in 2023, all eyes will be on the person announcing their critically important first-round pick.

Jets Special Guest Announces Round 1 Pick

The Jets made long-awaited waves this week by finally engineering a trade with the Green Bay Packers for future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While Rodgers might have lost a step or two as his 40th birthday approaches, he’s now officially — without a doubt — the best QB this franchise has had since at least 2015 (Ryan Fitzpatrick’s career year) and possibly since 1985 (Ken O’Brien).

In fact, Rodgers realistically could break Fitzpatrick’s franchise single-season record of 31 touchdown passes. Given his track record, Rodgers also might break O’Brien’s and Neil O’Donnell’s shared franchise single-season record for the lowest interception rate among Jets QBs with at least eight starts.

And Rodgers surely could break Joe Namath’s franchise single-season record of 4,007 passing yards, which Broadway Joe achieved in only 14 games.

Speaking of Namath, Rodgers has a shot at becoming his new team’s first MVP since Namath did it in 1968 — back when the Jets were in the AFL. That season 55 years ago, Namath helped lead the upstart Jets to one of the greatest Super Bowl upsets in history, defeating the seemingly unbeatable Baltimore Colts.

So yeah, there’s a lot of drama heading into this year’s NFL Draft, particularly within the Jets organization. It’s quite possible that they’ve acquired the best quarterback they’ve ever had, and at a time when their offense and defense are as good as they’ve been (collectively) for as long as one can remember.

And so, this draft represents New York’s final great chance to fill any remaining holes and to position themselves as a legitimate title contender.

The Jets’ deal for Rodgers included the net loss of two second-round draft picks (with one potentially becoming a first-rounder next year). It also moved them back two spots in the first round this year, from No. 13 overall to No. 15.

On a special night for this organization, at the close of a historic week for a team that hasn’t won the Super Bowl since before humans first walked on the moon, Make-A-Wish recipient Kyle Stickles will announce New York’s first pick at No. 15. A huge Jets fan from Ghent, New York, he will be joined on stage by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
