Who Did the Cowboys Draft in 2023?

The Cowboys’ first-round pick, Smith, may not end the season in 2023 as the team’s most productive rookie. It often takes a few years for defensive tackles to really round into form at the NFL level. But make no mistake, Smith has the upside to be one of the most disruptive 320-plus pound defenders in the league.

Schoonmaker has the athletic ability to be a seam weapon in the Cowboys’ passing attack, and DeMarvion Overshown will be an immediate contributor on John Fassel’s special teams units.

Viliami Fehoko has become a bit of a favorite for Cowboys Nation after the draft. However, Dallas has plenty of depth on the edge, and it won’t be easy for him to usurp that depth to make a massive impact in Year 1.

Eric Scott is a Dan Quinn draft pick through and through. He has the size, length, and athleticism that Quinn covets in his defensive backs. While the Cowboys’ CB room is good already, Gilmore is over 30, and Trevon Diggs is about to be very expensive, so taking a swing on a young athlete is a good move.

Deuce Vaughn is another favorite of Cowboys fans. While his tape was some of the most fun we got to see in the 2023 NFL Draft class, there have been quite a few very undersized backs throughout the years that haven’t panned out the way Darren Sproles once did.

Jalen Brooks must beat out at least one and possibly two of Simi Fehoko and Jalen Tolbert if he wants to make the team. KaVontae Turpin is safe because of his return ability.
