How Many Draft Picks Did the Eagles Have in the 2023 NFL Draft?

The Eagles had seven draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. Most importantly, the Eagles’ picks were frontloaded. Four of their seven selections came within the first 66 picks — including two first-rounders — and another just outside the top 100 (105). For a team that just made the Super Bowl, that’s as good as it gets.

For a team already capable of winning it all as currently constructed, the Eagles focused on getting their Day 1 selections from the top team in college football, choosing to move up a spot to No. 9 overall to grab Georgia DT Jalen Carter and then saw EDGE Nolan Smith land in their laps at the bottom of Round 1. Philadelphia added another Georgia player, Kelee Ringo, in the early part of Day 3.

Who Did the Eagles Draft in 2023?

All eyes were on the trio of Bulldogs defenders the Eagles added in their 2023 class. Carter, Smith, and Ringo were each extremely successful in college, proving to be elite athletes and proven contributors at the three most important positions on defense. It also helps each player fits the Eagles’ aggressive defense.

Carter will be the most polarizing player of the draft. He ran into several self-inflicted setbacks during the draft process, including misdemeanor charges that led to a year of probation and gaining nine pounds between the NFL Combine and his pro day. However, Carter was the best overall player in the class, so the Eagles are betting on his talent.

Smith and Ringo are more likely to contribute in 2024 than in 2023 due to the Eagles’ depth at both of their positions. Both are good players who bring some physical limitations, but their physicality and experience will prepare them for their roles whenever their numbers are called.

With Tyler Steen, Tanner McKee, and Moro Ojomo set to compete for backup roles at positions of need for the Eagles, the other potential major contributor early on is Sydney Brown. The Illinois playmaker is able to help in run support but also offers the ability to play as a slot cornerback, much like his predecessor C.J. Gardner-Johnson did. Don’t be surprised if Brown is a starter despite being a third-round pick.
