How Many Draft Picks Did the Seahawks Have Entering the 2023 NFL Draft?
The Seahawks pulled off what looks like one of the greatest heists in NFL history in 2022 when they sent Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a bevy of picks and players. Seattle already landed Denver’s first- and second-round selections in last year’s draft, and the Wilson deal kept on giving in 2023.
The Broncos struggled so mightily last season that they handed the fifth overall pick to Seattle this year. Although the Seahawks re-signed Geno Smith following his Comeback Player of the Year campaign, that early choice allowed Seattle to at least consider drafting a quarterback at the top of Round 1, although they ended up taking CB Devon Witherspoon.

Denver also gifted its second-round pick to the Seahawks, giving Seattle four selections in the top 60. General manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll put together an all-time class in 2022, securing long-term assets like Charles Cross, Kenneth Walker III, Abraham Lucas, and Tariq Woolen, and their draft capital gave them a chance to repeat in 2023.
While Seattle didn’t land any compensatory picks, they did acquire an extra fifth-rounder thanks to trading cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021. Meanwhile, the Seahawks had also traded a conditional seventh to the Houston Texans for cornerback John Reid in 2021, but Reid didn’t play enough to meet the deal’s conditions.
Witherspoon is the headliner of Seattle’s class, and he should fit in nicely alongside Woolen and Mike Jackson as an uber-physical slot-boundary hybrid. But the Seahawks’ gains go beyond that. Seattle also added Jaxon Smith-Njigba in Round 1, who fits perfectly as a threat underneath alongside DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
On Day 2, the Seahawks added a fringe first-round talent in Auburn’s Derick Hall on the edge and gave Walker a bruiser to complement him in the backfield with UCLA’s Zach Charbonnet.

With six more picks on Day 3, the Seahawks kept bolstering both sides of the ball, spending three picks each on offensive and defensive players. On offense, Seattle acquired developmental offensive guard Anthony Bradford, accomplished center Olusegun Oluwatimi, and pass-catching back Kenny McIntosh.
Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, Schneider and Carroll gained the rights to defensive tackle Cameron Young, defensive lineman Mike Morris, and defensive back Jerrick Reed II.
