History of Las Vegas Raiders First-Round NFL Draft Picks All Time

Jamarcus Russell and Khalil Mack help accentuate the polarizing nature of the Las Vegas Raiders' history of first-round picks in the NFL Draft.

History of Las Vegas Raiders First-Round NFL Draft Picks All Time

The Las Vegas Raiders‘ history of first-round picks in the NFL Draft at times inspires awe — for reasons both good and bad. The Raiders have seen it all, and they’ve been to both extremes on the spectrum of success and failure. Here’s a look at the Raiders’ NFL Draft history in totality, dating all the way back to 1961.

Las Vegas Raiders First-Round Draft Picks Throughout History

The Raiders have been successful in the NFL Draft before. They have five first-round picks enshrined in the Hall of Fame, among them Marcus Allen, Tim Brown, and Charles Woodson. Unfortunately, however, most people remember the Raiders’ draft performance for their blunders.

Famously, the Raiders spent their only first overall pick in franchise history on Jamarcus Russell in 2007, who’s regarded as one of the biggest NFL Draft busts of all time. More recently, selections like Alex Leatherwood, Damon Arnette, Henry Ruggs III, Clelin Ferrell, and Johnathan Abram have all been ill-fated.

Even so, the Raiders have several high-quality picks sprinkled in the modern era. Khalil Mack may be a future Hall of Famer, and Amari Cooper is a four-time Pro Bowler. The hope is that Tyree Wilson will bring that kind of performance back for the Silver and Black.
