Who Are the Best Tight Ends To Draft in Dynasty?

If you’ve played fantasy football at all before, you know that it’s a wise strategy to draft one of the elite TE options. However, you’ll pay for it with their overall ADP or completely wait it out until the later rounds and take chances on multiple players.

Travis Kelce will go down in history as one of the greatest fantasy football assets of all time. We have to go back to 2015 to find the last time that Kelce finished outside of the top two tight ends by the end of the season, which is truly mind-blowing to think about.

However, at some point very soon, reality will set in for the veteran TE here. Kelce finds himself set to turn 34 years old during the 2023-2024 NFL season, and history doesn’t favor players maintaining elite production toward this stage of their careers.

Nevertheless, Kelce has defied the odds over the past several years, and he’s single-handedly carried dynasty managers to championships time and time again with his performances. If you’re wanting to go all in for a title in Year 1 of your dynasty league, Kelce’s a very solid option in the first few rounds of your startup draft.

However, further down the draft board, Greg Dulcich is an intriguing name to monitor. Despite missing the first five games of his rookie season last year, Dulcich went on to average the 19th-most fantasy points per game amongst tight ends. And he did so in an absolutely horrific offense.

Sean Payton has ridden into town now to fix this Broncos offense, which can only mean good things for Dulcich going into his sophomore season. Rookie TEs typically don’t produce much at all in fantasy football, but Dulcich was able to show enough flashes to inspire confidence in managers for the future.

Dulcich’s already receiving praise from Payton this offseason, and he figures to be an integral part of this (hopefully) much-improved offense in 2023, making him a worthy investment in the mid-to-late rounds of startup drafts.

Meanwhile, dynasty managers seem completely intent on forgetting about Cade Otton in startup drafts. For much of last season, Otton battled with Cameron Brate for the starting role and was able to do good things for fantasy football at different stages of the year.

As mentioned above, rookie tight ends typically do next to nothing in their initial campaign. If they do make some noise right away, it’s an incredibly positive sign for the future.

Otton will no longer be catching passes from Tom Brady this season, but the need for a big receiving option over the middle of the field is going to be there for Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask in 2023. Otton may not have top-five upside at the position for the short term, but the target opportunity is present this season. Add on the potential that he could be catching passes from Caleb Williams or Drake Maye in 2024 and beyond, and Otton’s ADP is absolutely worth investing in.
