Who Are the Best Running Backs To Draft in Dynasty?

The dynasty RB landscape got a major shakeup this offseason with numerous talented players hitting the free agent market and finding themselves in new locations for 2023 and beyond. With that movement, ADP (Average Draft Position) is all over the place as dynasty managers begin to determine these players’ values in their new destinations.

This creates a window of opportunity for smart dynasty managers to scoop up players for cheap before the general public catches on. Let’s discuss three players at the RB position that are tremendous values going into the 2023 NFL season.

It seems as though everyone in the fantasy football community has wanted to see Joe Mixon fail for multiple years now. In that time frame, though, Mixon has continued to produce as an incredibly reliable fantasy asset that dynasty managers could simply scoop up on the trade market for cheap.

His ADP remains laughably low this offseason, with the general consensus that the Cincinnati Bengals will release him before the start of the season. However, Cincinnati has given zero indication that that is their intention, and they simply don’t have the experience behind him on the depth chart to let him walk.

2024 is a separate conversation, but Mixon is one of the most talented running backs in the NFL, he’s still just 26 years old, and he plays in one of the league’s best offenses. Dynasty managers should be clamoring to draft Mixon, but his ADP continues to be one of the most confusing situations this offseason.

While everyone else overthinks it, you can swoop in and draft a top-12 RB for 2023.

A little bit further down the board, AJ Dillon continues to be undervalued in dynasty. With Aaron Jones on the roster, Dillon’s upside remains capped. However, without Aaron Rodgers in town this year, Green Bay is going to look to establish the run in a substantial way.

Jordan Love is wildly unproven going into 2023, and the best way to take pressure off of an inexperienced QB is to establish the ground game. When he was with Tennessee in 2018, Matt LaFleur saw firsthand what a 250-pound running back can do for an offense — that should be the game plan for 2023.

It’s not out of the realm of possibilities for Dillon to receive 15-20 carries per game, while Jones moves around the formation to help take pressure off of the receiving corps. If that’s the case, Dillon is going to dramatically outperform expectations this season. He’s worth snagging now before his value skyrockets.

Finally, Jaylen Warren remains someone that dynasty managers should keep their eyes on in the later rounds of startup drafts. During his rookie campaign, Warren outperformed expectations and was the thorn in the side of Najee Harris’ dynasty managers everywhere due to how much work he was taking away from No. 22.

Going into 2023, the role is only rumored to continue growing for Warren as he becomes more and more ingrained into the offense. Dynasty managers are chasing after much less stable options at this stage of startup drafts, while Warren — and his guaranteed production — is there waiting to be taken.

Add on the potential that Warren possesses in 2023 if Harris misses time with an injury, and it’s shocking how undervalued the former is by the general public.
